Introduction

Polk Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 46073818587) (Polk) is the premier supplier of automotive intelligence, news and information in Australia and, through its AutoNews® website, grants access to press release and other information supplied by Australian automotive manufacturers. Any person who applies for access to the AutoNews® website is required to provide certain personal information, which Polk will use and store in accordance with this Privacy Statement in recognition of the importance of safeguarding the personal information of its customers.
All of the principles outlined in this Privacy Statement will apply to any personal information collected from a customer, unless the customer otherwise gives its consent.
Polk is required to deal with the personal information it collects in accordance with the National Privacy Principles (NPPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act). Personal information is any information about an individual that identifies an individual, or by which the identity of the individual can reasonably be ascertained.
How does Polk collect personal information?
Where possible, Polk collects personal information directly from the individual to whom the information relates.
Protection of personal information
In relation to any personal information disclosed by a customer to Polk, Polk agrees to:
- not use, disclose, store, transfer or handle the information except in accordance with the Privacy Act;
- take all reasonable steps to ensure that the information is protected from misuse, loss, unauthorized access, modification or disclosure, including the maintenance of physical and electronic security of their facilities and systems, together with the maintenance of internal practices to protect the security of information by limiting access to data, systems, and facilities;
- take all reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify the information when it is no longer needed for a purpose other than the primary purpose for which it was collected;
- only use or disclose the information for the purpose of fulfilling their obligations under this document, except where otherwise required by law;
- co-operate with any reasonable request or direction made the customer which relates to the protection of the information; and
- ensure that any employees who access the information comply with the requirements of this clause and of the Privacy Act.
Access to information
Any customer who submits personal information to Polk has a right to access it. Polk will, on request, provide a customer with access to any of the customer's personal information or inform the customer of the nature of the information stored.
Accuracy of information provided
Polk will take reasonable steps to ensure the completeness, accuracy and currency of personal information stored by it. On request by a customer, Polk will amend, update, or supplement any personal information that the customer believes is inaccurate, out-of-date or incomplete.
Employee standards
Polk uses its best endeavours that its employees are aware of, and comply with, the provisions of this Privacy Statement through extensive orientation programs, regular information meetings and electronic bulletin boards.
Changes to this policy statement
Polk reserves the right to change this Privacy Statement at any time. Notification of these changes will be published on Polk's web site. Customers will not be individually notified of any changes.
